Amazon has released their new Finance API, which has Sellers and developers excited for the latest update to this critical API.
Sellers, agencies, and brands rely on the Finance API to provide accurate financial data to understand sales trends, calculate an accurate P&L statement, and forecast for demand planning.
When Did Amazon’s New Finance API Release?
Amazon’s new Finance API (Finance API v2024-06-19) came out late in Q4. The API is fully out (no longer in beta), so any developer can build to it.
What’s Different in Amazon’s New Finance API
Standardized Transaction Information
According to Amazon, the new Finance API simplifies and streamlines all transaction data. Rather than needing to inspect and merge all your separate event types, Sellers now have access to all data in one place! This is a game-changer when trying to verify transaction information.
Marketplace-Level Transactions
Now in the new Finance API, you can view which marketplace that’s associated with a specific transaction. This is a much-needed update compared to the old Finance API, where Sellers would have to use the currency of a transaction to identify the country where it took place. However, this presented issues when the currency was in Euros, for example, since most European countries use this currency.
What Issues are We Seeing in Amazon’s New Finance API?
As with any new release updates, there will be issues and bugs that need to be addressed over time. These are some of the things our team has noticed!
One of the biggest issues our team has encountered is that the new deferred transactions status has not appeared for any transactions (as of March 17, 2025). Amazon does have plans for a beta release in the coming months, though we’re not sure when the general API release will go out to receive this update.
For international marketplaces where VAT is collected, there are a few transaction types that include VAT when they should not. According to what we’ve found so far, those are:
- FBA Per Unit Fulfillment Fee
- Amazon Commission (referral fee)
- Digital Services Fee
Usually we receive a separate line item for VAT charges, but for whatever reason these are inclusive of VAT, and we don’t have a way to determine the amount that should be taken out.
In addition, monthly storage fees and long term storage fees appear to still be a lump sum at the account level instead of broken out by item. We will continue to supplement this data in the P&L by SKU view with other reporting.
Lastly, Advertising Fees are still restricted to sellers who have the charge come directly out of their seller balance. Credit card users do not receive this data through the API. We will continue to supplement this data with the advertising invoice API for the P&L by Month view.
How Kapoq Handles Finance API Updates
Any time a new transaction type comes through the Finance API that we do not have mapped in Kapoq, we immediately get alerted and immediately map it. We make updates as quickly as possible when Amazon updates their transaction types.
Before the first of the year, we would maybe receive 1 or 2 updates every month. Since the beginning of 2025, we’ve gotten a lot more because of the new API. So far this year, we’ve received 4 updates on the old API, and 4 on the new API.
And, should there be any API outages, we notify our clients right away, handle errors in a timely manner, and ensure the data is accurate once fixed by Amazon.
